"Media" is not aggressive much at all. It will not remove rust and corrosion etc.
You should probably consider glass bead or sand or grit of some sort to clean up the parts mentioned. Glass being the least aggressive of those mentioned.

Good point. I was referring to "media" as the various sorts of material people use in blast cabinets.

The good news is there are a lot of options for media now when trying to clean parts.

Besides Harbor Freight, I can't find a local source for a reliable Soda Blaster, but I do have access to a glass bead blaster. How does one get all the media back out of all the cylinder head ports and intake manifold ports to make sure it does not get into the new engine?

Even if I tape every port up, something always gets through.

I bought used Snap On hand held unit. I was skeptical that it would work, but I was surprised by the results.

Biggest issue is you need to make sure the baking soda is dry. Otherwise, it works great.

On the cleaning options. I have used electrolysis many many times to help clean parts such as mentioned. This is a great process for most steels and cast iron parts. will not work on aluminum. I set up a tank, completed the wiring to a battery and a old battery charger. and most parts hung in the solution of water and Arm and Hammer Washing Soda were in much better shape in 12 to 24 hours. I liked it because it worked all night. I was able to keep a steady pace of cleaning in the tank then prepping that part for paint (primer) while the next part was being cleaned. Note its not media blasting. It has some drawbacks. But the process has cleaned hundreds of parts for me.
Just a idea to look at for parts cleaning. or one step in parts cleaning.
