Re: Two-Door Ford and Mercury Wagons
I hate those rubber band tire setups.

Re: Two-Door Ford and Mercury Wagons
Yes, those look like '55 or '56 Mercury fenders.
Actually looks like the entire Mercury front clip, including the two layer bumper. I like it ! (not the wheels and tires though). Sal |

Re: Two-Door Ford and Mercury Wagons
There is a what if Edsel Retractable convertible made out of a Ford that showed up at a car show on the Pacific coast a time or two.
I have not seen it but I have seen pictures of it. I think it was a ‘58. |

Re: Two-Door Ford and Mercury Wagons
They don't come any nicer that this 1959 Ford Two-door Country Sedan. This is was the last year that Ford offered the Country Sedan as a Two-door Wagon. In 1960, the only Two-door Wagon that was available was in the Ranch Wagon series. |

Re: Two-Door Ford and Mercury Wagons
I have to respectfully disagree about two door Country Sedans. All year Country Sedans were 4 doors. The car pictured I'm guessing is a '59 Del Rio Ranch wagon with a country sedan emblem, and possibly added trim.

Re: Two-Door Ford and Mercury Wagons
With respect to Scicala comments about the 1959 Ford Two-door Country Sedan that I posted, I respectively would advise that Ford actually sold 8663 of this model. As mentioned previously, this was the final year that Ford offered both a Four-door and Two-door Country Sedan. The Two-door wagons were also available in the Ranch Wagon series, but the last of the Two-door Ranch Wagons was 1961. Please refer to the Original Sales Brochure for the 1959 Ford Two-door Country Sedan. Coincidentally, the wagon in the illustration is painted the same colour as the one that I posted pictures of. |

Re: Two-Door Ford and Mercury Wagons
Nice car, mercman. Even back then with so many models, it is/was easy to get confused. My other car is a 58 Chevy Yeoman 2dr wagon. Everyone that sees it asks me if it is a Nomad. I tell them that ALL Nomads from 58 on were 4 doors, and top of the line wagons.

Re: Two-Door Ford and Mercury Wagons
I guess I stand corrected. I was going by my Encyclopedia of American Cars which hasn't failed me until now. It lists all Country Sedans from the mid-50's on up as 4 door only.

Re: Two-Door Ford and Mercury Wagons
After doing research, it appears that 1959 was the only year that Ford offered a Two-Door Country Sedan. The restorer of this beauty has added the Washboard Trim on the rear wheel cut-out. While this trim was standard on the Ford Fairlane 500 and Galaxie Sedans, Hardtops and Convertibles, it was never fitted to the Station Wagons. |

Re: Two-Door Ford and Mercury Wagons
I had a 59 Ford 2 door sedan in HS that the Ford dealer foreman had traded in. It was all black with grey interior and had pinstriping on the dash that really looked cool. It had the trim around the rear wheel well with the stripe that went to the rear bumper, but didn't have the 'washboard' trim. Looked different.

Re: Two-Door Ford and Mercury Wagons
The 1959 Ford Fairlane, Custom 300 and all Wagons never received this trim behind the rear wheel. It was only standard on the Fairlane 500 and Galaxie models. In Australia, we got the four-door Ranch Wagon for the first time a Ford Wagon was offered, and a lot of dealers fitted this trim to try and make it look more up-market.

Re: Two-Door Ford and Mercury Wagons
Please check out Post 349 which is a page from the original Sales Catalog. The illustration and description lists the Two-Door Wagon as a Country Sedan?

Re: Two-Door Ford and Mercury Wagons
"Sal, You must know by now that oldmics sent me just here to aggravate you ...
'Del Rio' 1957/1958 only." Yes. I was aware they built base Ranch wagons and Del Rio versions in '57 and '58. Just never realized they made a '59 only Del Rio with Country Sedan emblems. My encyclopedia was wrong (or just called it a Del Rio). I don't think Oldmics would do that to me. I thought he liked me. Lol Also, being informed that I was incorrect one time was enough for me. Extra times doesn't help the self esteem much for me. Sal |

Re: Two-Door Ford and Mercury Wagons
According to my "Standard Catalog of American Cars 1946-1975", this Body Style is listed as 59D and was sold as a "six" or V8. Total sales of this Two-Door 1959 Ford Country Sedan is listed as 8663. As I live in Australia, I have not seen one, so can only rely on what the book says as well as the illustrations in the original Sales Catalog.

Re: Two-Door Ford and Mercury Wagons
My Encyclopedia of American Cars also says body style 59D and 8663 built, but calls it a 2 door Del Rio. Not Country Sedan. All the '59 Country Sedans it says were 4 doors. I've never seen a '59 2 door Country Sedan either, except for the picture in this thread.
