Default water pump

Is there any way of identifying whether the water pump is of the leakless type as opposed to the original ?mine still has two grease nipples but I am unable to force any grease into them,so suspect it may be the former.thanks Vic

The front grease fitting on the leakless type is for show only. The rear fitting should take grease but recommended only a small amount every 500 miles. The leakless type has a sealed front bearing and does not require the packing material used in the original pump.

The leakless part of a leakless water pump is a lip seal in the rear bushing, you can use a grease type front bearing.

Easy to become an expert on water pumps. Get a usable core at a swap meet, buy the parts kit and have at it. Original is simple and modern is something that you probably can't get parts for anyway. Simplicity is what's good about an A and it works well.

I understood that there are 2 types of leakless pumps. One has stops so that the thrust is not dependent on the stop in the head. Also, one has the bearing that does not require any lubrication as stated above, the other has a greaseless bearing on both ends and therefore does not require and lubrication at all. The OP wanted to know how to tell the difference between the farious types including the originals. So far that is not answered here. Jack

It takes disassembly to determine if its a leakless pump
The picture I posted shows what to look for. There are all types of bearings available, from sealed to stock.
