Manifold gask leak

Manifold gasket was leaking put on a copper jacketed gasket. The manifold won't fit tight at #1 I can get a .010 gauge through between manifold and gask. Is there an easy fix for this other than getting another manifold? Thanks

You can try the one piece steel gasket or have the manifolds planed.

Have it surfaced at a machine shop if there is still enough meat. Be sure to do the intake attached at the same time.

What are the pros and cons on the selection of one or two piece gaskets for the manifold?? Jack

Both the block and the pair of manifolds need to be flat not more than about .004 - .006 runout. The other "flatness is if the rear of the exhaust sags down so the ports are not in alignment. If you get only the exh. then you may have issues of misalignment between the two manifolds. Problem solved if both are purchased at the same time.

I use the copper laminated gasket, with a tiny line of exhaust sealant around the bores, on each side. Several re-torqueings are a MUST!

If you haven't already, be sure to check the manifold lengthwise for droop.

You can see in this picture the manifold had drooped nearly 1/4" by #4.

I bought a matched intake/exhaust replacement set that fit perfectly...

Have the manifold milled true but make sure they bolted together first. Then use the 4 gland rings in the exhaust ports. The rings will keep the manifold in proper alignment with the corresponding ports in the block. You want to make sure the rings don't bottom. To check for clearance bolt up the manifold with the rings in with NO gasket. JUST SNUG the 4 manifold nuts. If you can't put a feeler gauge between the manifold and the block you good to go and now put the gasket on and torque to 30 lbs and re torque after a couple of weeks. Now if you can put a feeler gauge between the block and manifold take the rings and reduce the dimension. Continue the process a little at a time until you can put the manifold tight against block. Put the gasket on and follow the previous steps

I appreciate all of the comments but it doesn't answer the question. What are the pro's and con's of the choice of using two gaskets or using just one that fits over both halves of the block? See Snyders A9433-F vs. A9433 Jack

The single gaskets have two holes so you must completely remove ext manifold to install.

The two piece have slots and it is possible to install the gasket by leaving exhaust clamp installed by swinging manifold assembly toward you.

Actually you can install singles without disconnecting clamp also but it is necessary to remove the washers and nuts from the studs.

I think it is just which one seems to fit better. I like the half ones, but have used the long ones and they worked fine. Just torque to 45 ft lb and retorque a few times.
