Default 59a Rods ID

So I have a set of rods removed from a 59a engine.
The rods are 29a- 6200. But all caps are ID with 99a.
I am wondering if this was a mix and match set fitted to the engine as both are listed as 2.36" ID.

Phil, that's how they came from the factory; 29A on the rod, 99A on the cap

Thanks for clarification my knowledge base continues to expand with questions answered by those wlling to share. Ty Brian.
Also it is possible to fit shell bearings to these rods as opposed to floaters if the can be found?

to fit non floater you would have to find bearings to fit and also "notch" the rod to accept the locating tab on bearing--both doable

Shell bearings will not work on the 59 cranks. Only one oil hole.

C69A eh Phil? In that case, the original bearings, # C49A 6215, were locked into the notched rods. These bearings are long obsolete. The regular floater style bearings can be substituted; the dimensions are the same, od and id.
Now, should you find a set of the shell bearings, yes, you could reinstate them into those rods, provided the rods have never been used with floaters. Why? because the bigend of the rod will be worn from the floater style bearing, meaning you won't get the correct crush on the shell, and conceivably some ovality.
Alternatively, if you are 'stuck' on using shells, use 8BA rods and bearings. You can run them on your two hole/journal C69A crankshaft. Easier to source.

Its a 59a and as you say its got the 2 oil holes and was running floaters.
The point made about initail use of floaters in the notched rods which these ones are clear. Its seems the alternative is the 8ba rods, which I am using.
NOS ex Barnfind08, Almost there on this one.
Just trying to help out another guy on the 29a rod brgs which seems an impossible task.
Appreciate clarification as both c/shafts i'm dealing with have the 2 oil holes.

To clarify; you can run floaters or shells on a two hole crank. Doubt you'll ever find C49A shells, so either;
run floaters in your 29A rods, or
8BA shells in 8BA rods

Phil if you decide to/are able to go with c49a insert bearings instead of floaters we still have a few sizes NOS in stock.

However you’ve been given good advice if they had floaters you should stick with floaters as resizing the rods for inserts would be a pain if they have significant wear

Or you can use the French rods, and lock in inserts.
But the floaters a way better.

Gents appreciate the comments and very useful options. Will pass these on this site is the best for the "real true oil" on flathead bits.
