Wire spoke wheel trueing
I searched for past forums and did not find anything. I’m starting to focus on my wheels and notice some spokes are slightly bent. Does anyone know who can straighten rims and true the spokes. I did see a video of a original rim straightening tool. Any help? Thanks.

Re: Wire spoke wheel trueing
Try asking at local A and V8 clubs to save shipping.

Thanks Charlie. Have reached out to the local restoration club. Seems there was someone but as moved out of area. By the time I ship and pay invoice I could have cost of a new rim.
Hope to hear more on this subject. Thanks again. |

Re: Wire spoke wheel trueing
fords,
I have an article on wheel straightening on my website. Go to the Do It Yourself (DIY Help) page and check out Wheel wobble reduction by Spoke Shrinking. I straighten wheels for my local club only. I used to take them in from all over the country. It just was too much to handle with what else I do. I have straightened over 350 wheels using the methods described in my articles. Re: Wire spoke wheel trueing
It's doable yourself. First straighten all spokes with ordinary hand tools. Put the bare wheel on a spindal so you can check for wobble. Follow the identical thinking as if you were aligning a bicycle wheel. But instead of tightening a spoke, you are heating a spoke cherry red ( about a 1 inch segment ) then quenching it with a wet rag. This shrinks the spoke, and thus pulls the wheel. If you have a junk wheel, you can get the feel of it with practice.

Re: Wire spoke wheel trueing
Thanks guys. I have heard the pros and cons of using heat. I might purchase the tool MACs or SNYDERS Have. I have a deluxe coupe with six rims. Will get worst one and experiment.
Thanks again. |

Re: Wire spoke wheel trueing
If your referring to spoke straightening tools the vendors sell, I suggest you not spend the money, as they are expensive and not at all necessary. Ordinary hand tools are very adequate.

Re: Wire spoke wheel trueing
Would you care to share the 'cons' of using heat to true spokes on a wheel please?
