Default Engine no serial number

I acquired a model A engine and transmission at know charge. The serial number has been removed - seems it was machines off. What does this do to the value?
I want to rebuild for the heck of it and if I wanted to sell - would no serial number be an issue?
Thanks guys

having the serial number on the block is nice to know what car/year it came out of but not necessary for anything. most model A's dont have their original engines anyways and restorers like to restamp the frame number on the new block anyways.

Replacement blocks were not stamped according to this.

Where the diamond would be I have what appears to be an "X"
Would that mean anything?

The Diamond is cast as part of the block. It is raised. It is not stamped as your "X" is.

I understand all thst.
But what is the X?
I like to believe it means "extra fine motor", seeing how the motor runs great

I am running a factory replacement motor built in 1934 and has NO diamond on it. The diamond blocks are industrial motors.
