Default Fuel line-Pump to Carburetor

I am surprised to find that the solid steel fuel line kits from the fuel pump to the carburetor use a plumbing compression fitting to seal the joint. I would have assumed that it would use a flared fitting.

I'm asking because I want to replace the rubber line from my pump to my carb. I am running an Edelbrock high rise manifold and 1405 carb with the standard fuel pump. Both fittings are 3/8". Should I change over to a flared fitting or use the compression ring fittings? I will have to make up my own line anyway, and I have to change out the fittings because they are currently for push on and clamp rubber hose.

What is most common?

The above is but one example of the many GOOD reasons to include your general location under your FORDBARN stage name. DD
