Fuel injection and magneto.High compression, 10.5 and up.



When I was going at it big time a few years ago, a little birdie told me stay



away from Holley electric high pressure fuel pumps.


If something goes wrong it can turn into a big old fire problem!


Just a word to the wise about going with fuel injection.


Same thing.Fuel injection systems like Hillborn use a high pressure



mechanical fuel pump.


That fuel will come out of there REAL FAST if there is a leak of some kind.


High compression means race gas or nitro mix only!


Those little pings you hear with low octane gas are bad news for the



engine.That's called 'detonation'.It will destroy all those nice parts in



the engine you lovingly assembled with your own little hands.



So basically a full house engine is limited to what we used to just call



a 'trailer car'.


Dragster of some kind.Slingshot or altered, whatever.


Road race car but no nitro for those and mag not necessary.

Used to see the fuel injection intake manifolds at the swap meet for cheap.


Couple problems with going that route.


Then you will need the Hillborn fuel pump to go with it.


Setups I've seen drive off of the motor somehow and that means hassle.


Like I said, when I was going at it I just 'stayed in the boat'.


Looked into a few things like this and found out they had a lot of 'gotcha's'


to them.


Only for tube frame type race cars where everything is easily accessible.


They do put out a worthwhile increase in power though!


Get a deal on the WHOLE SETUP that somebody pulled off a running



engine or you will get nickled and dimed to death getting rest of parts.

Those old mechanical fuel injections also only work well at a certain rpm. Usually the pill is set for high rpm and are lousy at lower revs.

racing.Okay with me.


In our little world the limit is going to be two four barrel carb's.


We can do that on the MEL 430 but it's a waste of time on a Y block.


Y block will only take up to 4 two barrels on log manifolds.

Found out those little spun aluminum tanks are made to be PRESSURIZED!


Always wondered about that.

Pill is the same as a jet in a carb. Regulates the fuel flow. Problem with the mechanical injectors is they are really made for racing so you set the pil (jet) for the high rpms which means very rich at low rpms. Not to good on the street. I know Hilborn makes EFI setups now but at $7000 a tad pricey.

Don't have the patience anymore to work on things with stuff in the way.


Mentioned the two four barrel setup because that will be our 'fuel injection'



setup.Keep in the spirit of a 'maximum effort' race setup without the



expense.


Probably won't go with a mag either.


Just putting the engine in a light tube frame you come out miles ahead.

I have been "shown". Across the street from me in Seal Beach, California, the young son was building an Econorail and I saw him tacking welds on the chrome moly tubes. I had been to Fullerton JC and took gas welding from an old pipeline welder. He was going to have it arc welded later. He had purchased a former chrome tube axle from a "Top Fuel dragster." His engine had parts from Moroso which his dad knew. I sent my tools to Nicaraugua in 1987 with the medical supplies and a disc drive and some IBM Selectrics. In 1998 I got hit by a car in a cross walk with the green walker and the car had a red left turn arrow. Just got called out as a spammer by Vintage Ford. How am I doing, here? My 1976 BMW 530i had a Bendix designed and Bosch supplied Luft not Kurz. The Chevrolet stock FI used a float bowl that looks like from a Rochester 2GC. My room mate cornered the market on FI's and T-10's that had been taken off in 1965. He put one he rebuilt on his 1967 truck.

Badass is talking 'train of thought'.


The econorail hits me where I live.


Building a 440 econorail was on the list when things got side tracked a little.


Now we are basically doing same thing just with parts rearranged some.


Guy learning to weld from a super experienced welder is like the guy that welded



our Pro Stock car together.He learned as a deep water welder in the Navy.


Those welds were a thing of beauty.He threw in extra touches we did not



even asked for.THAT was a welder!
