Default Oil filler tube leak?

Aloha,
After a drive I always have some oil on the side of the engine by the oil filler tube. Is it possible that some oil comes out of the filler tube and then is blown on the side of the engine?
If so is it normal the oil comes back up the tube? What would be the fix?

Check Ford service manual several types of tubes. My L31 tube has baffles inside and keeps oil from coming out. Also make sure cap is not sealing the tube not allowing crankcase to breath. Oil level stick can also allow oil to blow out, the loop/handle needs to be all the way down. Worn piston rings can cause pressure to blow oil out

And..........make sure the tube is seated tightly in the block.
I thought my oil was coming from the cap and blowing back but turned out it was weeping out at the base.
I was able to grab tube and remove it with no effort.

Since the lowest baffle prevented me from using a tubing expander I cleaned it, fluxed it and tinned it. Smeared a little formagasket no 2 on it, aligned the baffles and drove it in with a dead blow and block of wood.

No more leak.

Big hammer is right. If the dip stick is not inserted all the way in, you will overfill the engine and it will leak in a lot of places. The tang must be all the way in. jack

For tubes that are loose in the block, Just "TIN" it, & have Big Hammer drive it in yo' BLOCK!

A quick cover up is an old sock over the fill tube and cap, or use a road draft tube.

Remember to use your wife's sock. After use they are soggy and smelly and squishy to wear ...

I think ford tried 3 times with different baffles in the fill tube to try and fix the oil blow by problem, he finally gave up on the early 31's, my guess, I have a book around here some where that discusses his efforts to fix the problem, use a road draft tube that fits in the top of the oil fill tube if you just want to keep the oil off your fire wall

After my first long trip in Minerva, I thought I had a DREADED rear main leak! Added some dye to the oil, after the next trip, I flashed it with my black light, it had splashed out of the filler, down the block & disappeared behind the starter & dripped from the trans. housing. On short runs, it DIDN'T drip. ALSO, DON'T ever slap your filler cap down HARD, It'll block off ALL breathing & it'll run out the rear main, LIKE A COW PEEING ON A FLAT ROCK. Mine even blew the DIPSTICK partly out! (After I get Vermin finished, my next project is to set up a proper PCV system & have the ONLY Model A in the neighborhood that DOESN'T leak oil.)

Haven't heard that one in a while Bill. Good to see you posting again.

Try one of these if you can find one.

Tin Cup,
I have a cap that uses a flex tube, the flex tube is missing. I'll pick up a piece of electricians flex tubing & braze it on. They seem to do a purdy good job. ( I sure do miss PURDY! HE'S MY BROTHER)
