Toe Board Finish ....
I'm going to replace the toe board in the '34. The new board is unfinished. Looking at the original board, the finish is black but I can't discern if it's black stain or black paint? Which product should I use on the new board? I'm thinking a black exterior stain like a deck stain would be ideal for this job. Any recommendations here?

Re: Toe Board Finish ....
What was the brand of the stain you used? Was it an exterior stain?

Re: Toe Board Finish ....
I will have to look at the can when I get home, been about five years since I did it.
It seems to hold up real good, I have driven in the rain a few times. |

Re: Toe Board Finish ....
I also use Ebony black but Minwax product.
I tend to let it soak to get the wood as dark as possible. Typically little grain remains to be detected. On occasion two coats are required. NOT gloss.

Re: Toe Board Finish ....
Ebony works well for wood. stain or semi transparent stain, solid is paint with some stain.
As mentioned. top Satin finish. Flat finish is for ratrods or suspension parts. You can do gloss if you like. It'll wear down on floor boards. Just my nickle, and sorting you a dime. . Last edited by Tinker; 09-28-2018 at 11:05 PM. |

Re: Toe Board Finish ....
As Mike indicates, no gloss, like the original. I also have used Minwax ebony which seems to be more widely available than Olympic.
