It might be just as cost effective to replace the motor. Can you share pics?

Sal,

Suggest you add your general location to your profile so you get local repair services. Post what kind of heater you have (is it an ARVIN?) and maybe someone will know a motor that fits and is available. Plus pictures would be useful.

A quick search will show that Sal is located in Winter Garden, Florida and supplies his phone number also.

Mine needed the wires replaced but the most difficult part was removing the squirrel cage fan from the motor shaft. Had to use a propane torch and lots of Liquid Wrench.

C&G 800-266-0470 has them in their catalog. About $80, a fair price and probably less than having it rebuilt.

In my local area the motor repair people laugh at motors smaller than 2hp.

My HF might work but don't know your year/car. Last item on my 12v conversion I'm facing removal of my 6v heater fan to get access for shaft measurement of diameter/length. Some Mustang fans reportedly work. But I must remove the car's engine to get close to the thing from inside the engine bay. Before you choke, I'm going to remove the engine for replacement anyway. Unless someone kindly shares shaft diameter and length. '50M

As supereal notes above C&G sells a replacement 6 volt that I used in my '47. I had to cut the shaft a bit, but otherwise it was a direct replacement for the original. Works really well. Not sure why my original quit....worked fine before I removed the heater to rebuild the engine and transmission, but when I put it back in the car....nothing!!! (Must have been the heater gremlins in my storage box???

Napa sells a 6 volt motor, #655-1021, for about $36 USD. Worked great for my 3 door heater.

For those converting to 12 volt, the NAPA version is #655-1020.

Thank You all for the replies, tried C&G they said these motors are discontinued. Got to pick up Hemmings and find a rebuilder unless any one knows one.

I think that you'll find that the motors tha C&G carry are only the 2 wire variety so will work in Ford heaters but will not change direction the same way as the 4 wire Motors do i.e. by reversing the field winding polarity.

You are correct, they are two wire motors. I could not find a reversing 6 volt in the right size.
