Cabriolet window channels

The guidelines say that the window channel felt which is only on the rear part of the door windows on the Cabriolets is supposed to be "short pieces".

The one I got from Bratton's is a full long piece. It does work, but yes it has extra resistance which could eventually mess with my riser gears so I have to baby it up and down. So, does anyone know what short pieces really mean?

I was thinking of cutting off the bottom 4 inches or so just below the second screw of 3 that I think I had on there originally, and not have it go all the way down?

Don't want to put the door panels on twice if my window regulators give out..

The standard window channel sold by vendors is usually for just glass. They may now make it for cabbys but I don't think so. They stop at the top of the door and are about 21"long
Cabbys have the metal surround and are thus wider/thicker to accommodate

Correcting the above I see bratton does list them. Maybe the front and rear channels are not
Exactly parallel making the frame bind. Did you try the metal frame in the felt channel before assembly?

the last two 68B`s I put together, I did not like using that short original felt so I used the longer felt I purchased from Bratton`s years back. the felt is a little wider on the out side so I made up new retainer channel . the last one I put new wood in the doors and had to do a little carving on the rear inner door wood to get a good fit on the window frame. make sure the window frame will slide up and down easily before you install the regulator.

Also make sure the front slides are not binding
Those can get tricky

I purchased a 68B several months ago. Restored, but not super. The passenger window works quite well. The driver window tends to bind and I am trying to free it up. The window binds near the top but the rear felt channel seems pretty good? Is there any adjustment on the front channel? The window crank mech. Tuns freely and is well lubed. Any suggestions will be welcomed.

There is not an adjustment as the screws are fixed to mate with the door.
Possibly the channel in the door is mashed or tweaked enough to cause the bind.
It’s a lot of trouble to get to that channel as the upholstery needs to come out to gain access
The channels are bad to split and distort
Just a thought

Are the rear channels adjustable?

They tack into wooden door post so I suppose they could be relocated if not tacked in correctly

Hello Happy 30, my 31 Victoria windows also bind when they get about half way up. They were well lubricated with silicone. After watching the window go up very closely, I could see that the window winding arms where tilting the glass into the soft center of the window channels. Evidently the arms are forcing the window to one side. I greatly improved the window operation by inserting a strip of fiber glass tape that was used to fasten down things on to a pallet at Home Depot. I actually got this strapping out of a trash bin. I think I trimmed the strapping slightly with scissors and tucked it into the window channel. It is wide enough so that it is held by the window channel without any glue. I then sprayed silicone into the window channel. Now when I wide up the window, the glass slides over this hard fiber glass and does not bury itself into the window channel felt. Good luck with it, Ed
