Default 1940 Ford trunk lid supports Body color??

My trunk Lid supports are shot on my 40 Coupe. Does anyone know if originally they were body color, or black?? I plan to install NOS ones and my gut feeling tells me they were body color, but my gut feeling has left me stranded before.

I think they were all factory black.
It would be too costly to have them painted body color.

Mike, Listen to your gut...
The trunk lid was trimmed to the body prior to painting. As such, the support arms and all associated fasteners were body color.

Mike, Thanks!

I presumed it was as such even though mine are currently Black.

Mike, Is it possible that during a 1940's life the original trunk support hinges could have been replaced with OEM hinges of another color, like black, if the dealer didn't have the correct color in stock? My car was originally Folkstone Grey but, I don't think the trunk support hinges were also Folkstone Grey. I think they were black.

Service replacement supports were supplied in ONLY one color - most likely black. I can't imagine too many owners of these "used cars" demanding they be painted body color upon replacement.
My response to Michael Driskell's post was to address "concourse correct". In other words, how the car was built.

Joe, I can't answer with any authority to '41 Fords. My research and experience has been primarily focused on '39 - '40.
I did check the Ford V8 Club restoration manual and could not find this addressed.
Without knowing for certain, I'd hate to suggest the '41 was built the same as a '40 and possibly lead you astray.

I had a incredibly original 1939 Deluxe with low mileage at one point and they were body color as well as the hardware (the car had original paint)

I would imagine that is a very commonly worn part that was a frequent replacement at dealers.

Kube, I tried to find this in the restoration manual but could not find anything either. I went on the site but all I can find is radiator paint, not the brackets, springs etc. I am not a concourse Ford guy but thought I might as well paint everything the correct shade.
