Push down ignition switch

Hi, I'm looking for a more nice ignition switch, like the originally built with to press in to start. Is this:

That switch works well and resembles the original once installed. I have one and it has a nice solid click with a detent in the "on" position. It is only an on/off switch that resembles the original.

The original is referred to as a "pop-out" switch. It looks different and functions differently but accomplishes the same thing. It pops out in the "on" position and to shut "off" you push it in

Just to be clear, the original "pops-out" so you can start the car. You push it in when you stop. (And there's a whole lot more involved in starting and stopping. ) Anyway, the switch you linked "Looks and mounts like the original but does not pop out...On-off style switch."

Original Electrolock pop out switches sometimes come available on flea-pay or on the swap meet sections of forums like the Ford Barn. They have to be scrutinized for their originality since reproductions were made of them for a long time but they did not have the characteristics of originals. The originals can be rebuilt to some degree if the key parts are still serviceable.

Original Briggs & Stratton type keys are out there as well but may require some lock cylinder or key cutting to get them to work correctly if an original doesn't come with keys

Personally, I would not buy the one from Mac's.


This is probably made in China and we have had nothing but problems with electrical stuff from China.


Also, the part behind the dash panel is quite large and you may have interference problems with the wire connections.

Dick restores the original switches and also will help you with all the locks on your Model A or Early V-8 Ford.

Ford also sold a replacement ignition switch fro the Model A.


They are very good quality. They are around and I would consider one of these if you did not want to go for an original Pop-out Switch.

No, I do not use China scrap too! I already wrote to Bob Crabtree several weeks ago if he also sent to Germany. But unfortunately I did not receive an answer.

Yes, it should be a pop-off switch, because I like all these fine mechanic nicely. I will go to the search.

That one sold by Macs looks like the USA made Nurex switch.

today I received from Dick Crabtree a restored original Popp-Off ignition switch. Very nice quality! It's a great feeling to press the crisp key lock. Thanks again to all forum participants for the helpful hints!

I also have a restored popout from Dick Crabtree.
Werner: The three small mounting screws will be difficult to line up and install for your new popout in your dash panel. Go slow, be patient, and it WILL go together. Be sure to use the bakelite wire nut Dick furnished so you don't get any electrical shorts.
I also enjoy the feel of original popout switches!

But rather 100 ignition locks change than 1 again the rear leaf spring!

Noticed a clip for each spark plug brass strip. From here it looks like you managed to drill thru the post on the distributor body.
Did I see this correctly?

Hallo Bob, I see you have looked very carefully! Right, the bronze strips are secured on the distributor pins with the twisted wires. The twisted wire is bent to a "S". As a result, it pushes the strip with a little bias down. To loosen the strips, the S-wire is turned 90 degrees to the side.

Probably a stainless steel wire. I like that. Improves the contact, and easy to do.
