Question Distributor Body Play, What to Do?

I was going over my timing after viewing the YouTube video by Les Andrews and sure enough the first thing I found was that the movement of my spark advance was skewed due to the steering column not being in the correct position. But after that I found that my distributor body did not lock tightly on to the distributor base, seems that I can wobble it back and forth maybe 1/16 - 3/32 of an inch. This must impact my timing when the car is running. The body is a new repro and the distributor base is an original rebuild.

The upper STEEL plate being loose will affect the timing, but the BAKELITE body being loose won't affect the timing. I have seen some loose bodies, but the ones I bought from Bert's, Bratton's, and Little Dearborn have all had a nice snug fit.

Hey......I'm not that old!

As fas as tightening the cap, you could run a thin strip of tape around the body. At least this would keep the contacts gaps more even. Wish I knew where the loose caps come from. That's one reason when I find a good part, I try to remeber where I bought it and buy that part from the same dealer again.
