Default Mart's 41 pickup. What's that squeak? VIDEO.

No, it's not my Brummie accent.

Ok everyone, I have taken onboard all of your very helpful suggestions. I've just uploaded a new video. I used my phone, which does record in the 16:9 format when on it's side. I was impressed with how it coped with low light situations. The subject is my 1941 Ford pickup. I tried to add all the salient info, have an intro and outro, and keep the how to bits short and snappy by editing out a lot and speeding up repetitive jobs. I also spent time adjusting the volume up for the talking bits and down when drilling, hammering, grinding etc.

Have a look, see what you think. I eagerly await your reviews, and appreciate your help and advice.

Nice work Mart. I need someone to track down the annoying squeek in the back of my Merc. I noticed your fenders don't have any welds. It was common to see cracked and welded fenders here. My 39 has several welds in it.

Hi Ralph. Thanks for the comment, first as always..

The fender is actually pretty good, it does have welds, but I had to try and get the video length down, so edited out the part where I showed them. There are three or four around the rim and bottom edge. The other side is slightly worse. I will probably do a more thorough job sometime in the future, including making some more welds of my own. But for now, just getting it attached properly was my priority.

It was more an exercise in upping the ante on the video production although the job itself was interesting and I tried out a couple of things I had not done before.

Mart.

I should add that the I phone does shoot nice video. I just find it is little weak on sound. On mine it is so easy to accidentally have my finger covering the mike and making it very low volume The Gopro does a better job for me.

The most difficult squeaks to find are often due to the glass. I chased one long ago to a windshield where the glass had penetrated the gasket and rubbed against the metal of the opening. Others are due to part of the exhaust system expanding when hot, causing contact.

Nice job Mart, are you going to put a rubber gasket on the other side?.

Thanks for the replies, guys.

Yeah, I just pulled the right fender off and will be following exactly the same procedure to reattach it, including the rubber. there was the slightest remnant of anti-squeak still attached to the right fender. Good thing was, all 7 studs were intact and cleaned up nicely with a die. There were only 3 nuts fitted though. At least that was one more than the left side!

Nice video! My 52 F-1 makes the exact same chirping, but from the RH (Passenger) side door, seems to be near the vent window because if I push on the door frame near there, it stops. I can find no evidence of a rub, has stymied me for years.

Like how you used the curvature of the truck tube(?) to duplicate the fender's radius.

Does anybody know if there is a US product comparable to Finnigan's Wax Oil.?
