Default Engine problems

It is always better to preform some simple test before you change a lot of parts.
First check for big blue spark. Then pull the plug out of the bottom of your carb and see if you are getting good gas flow.If you have bad gas flow it will start bucking before it stops. Try pulling the choke out slow and see if that helps it to run better, if it does you have fuel problem. The last thing you want to do is change a lot of parts, because you will have problems that no one has the answers to.

X2 George.
It seems to be the norm on here lately that people change to many parts and some times create more problems or never correct the original problem. I think trouble shooting is becoming a thing of the past. Guess I have been lucky, being taught this years ago by old time mechanics. People just need to slow down a little and think it thru. Just my 3 cents. Now back to a motor I am putting back together.

Maybe the heading should be Driveability Problems??
Most wouldn't want a repair shop to throw parts at ur modern iron, even though A's are much simpler they should be treated the same

We have stated this how many times???

Spark / Fuel two easy things to check..

Way to many times. But people seem to want it to be what they think it should be.

Barring a disastrous mechanical problem, the cause of which would be obvious, there is not much to go wrong but fuel and spark. Testing for each is easy as described above. Once one is eliminated, you're really starting to narrow things down.

Sure do, Mitch A restricted air supply generally won't stop the engine - it would have to be blocked for that to happen . A restriction would only cause a rich mixture which would show up as:
Black exhaust smoke & smell fuel in it.
Won't rev out
black/carboned up plugs
poor economy
lumpy idle etc
A restricted air supply is sooo easy to correct on the side of the road. Take off what ever air cleaner you have.
