Default Removing a 1941 gear shift knob

I'm looking for a little help... I know these are meant to be pull-type but how does one actually remove a column shift gear knob?

Regards,
-tony.

On my 40 I recall I had to twist and pull really hard.
It's not threaded in the traditional sense.
I bet 41 is the same. If you have the replacement knob
look and see how the spiral cuts inside the knob look.

Pardon for asking, but what is wrong with the original one on there? If you are not trying to save that one just cut at mounting end and split and remove or just heat it up and slide off.

Yes, I don't really want to. But looking at getting my steering wheel restored and want the original gear knob matched.
