Re: shake and bake?
the other question I asked was would the process help to free a stuck flattie, the answer was no, the temp would be so hot you would never get it apart. true?

Re: shake and bake?
It would definitely "bake" whatever varnish was locking parts together. The process is intended to do an extremely thorough cleaning of individual parts as opposed to assemblies. Good luck with your project.

Re: shake and bake?
Can someone run through the exact processes involved in this, please?
Engine machine shops are fewer and further between over here in the UK, or at least ones experienced in flatheads. Also "shake and bake" may go by a different term. |

Re: shake and bake?
The various engine parts are placed in an oven on a rotissere type device. they are heated to somewhere in the 400 - 500 degree range. After all the oil, grease, etc is burned off and converted to residue, the parts are tumbled with steel shot to remove all the residue. The parts come back beautifully cleaned and ready for machining or assembly. Hope this helps.

I would ask if they do shot cleaning, blast cleaning, baking, etc. I've heard called a bunch of different names. |

Re: shake and bake?
I've had two of my blocks done this way with great results. Unlike just "hot tanking" which left alot of garbage still in the block.
