That's a great picture of TomT and his '32 on the salt. He has a smile almost as big as Wayno's Avatar

Re: A 'Barner Run to Bonneville
We suffered an other day on the flats. Suffering should be this good all the time.
We finally caught up with Wayne, Elmo-Rodge. He is all set to make a run. His weapon: The Command center. These two pickups stopped by the Rolling Bones pits. Both were kept or made to look like well worn shop trucks. Speed attempts start tomorrow. Wayne is thinking he will get to 165 MPH. I'll try to get some pictures and maybe video to post. There is so much going on here that it is a bit overwhelming for a first timer. All I can say is WOW I'm really here. This event is a Flathead Mecca. Stay tuned. |

Re: A 'Barner Run to Bonneville
I'm sure sorry I didn't see this sooner. You all drove within two miles of my house. Would have liked to meet you. If you're coming back this way let me know.

Tom's smile has turned permanent. He is called the Joker by the crew. 8892 is called the dark side. Can you guess why? Chevy in a Ford. Two runs were made by it. I am not sure of the exact numbers, around 160mph. Wayne made his first run today. I wil post his results when I find out what they are. The sound of speed is habit forming. |

Re: A 'Barner Run to Bonneville
Great pictures Chuck! Thanks for keeping us posted and giving us a little taste of the salt. Another great smiling shot of TomT. He's looking pretty spiffy there...almost like he just happened to stop by on his way home from the office .

Re: A 'Barner Run to Bonneville
Wayne had to abort his run yesterday. Interference of the air cleaner base prevented the choke from opening completely. The fix was done today. He made 142mph on today's run.
Correction: The Rolling Bones 560 car has a Y Block engine. It is indeed a potent one. It was NOT built by Ol' Ron. The engine Ol' Ron built it in one of Ken's other cars. Most of the day was watching the action at the start line of course 3 and helping the RB crews were we could. We got to the HAMB meet and greet yesterday evening. Tom lucked out by winning a laser cut Flatcad key rack. A very cool looking piece. This Ford there had us fooled for while. This evening we went to the Inliners International BBQ. We claim the Flathead can qualify as an inline. Two inline fours attached at the crank. The flats and Wendover have been constant high intensity show since last Thursday. It continues until this coming Thursday. Thing are not what they seem. Bubba, We will check on that one. The program lists City of Burbank 2.0. #61 XF/GS. It that the the same? In 09 it ran 253.995mph. It is powered by a 267" Flathead. Last edited by 41ford1; 08-12-2013 at 10:46 PM. Reason: Correction on the Ol' Ron build. |

Re: A 'Barner Run to Bonneville
Chuck, TomT is saying over on the H.A.M.B. that you bought a hot rod while at Bonneville.
P L E A S E tell us about that!! Will we get to see it at the Barner's Tour in PA this September?

Re: A 'Barner Run to Bonneville
I'll just say it is not Ford Barn friendly. It is a Dark Side car. I'll post more info when it is officially mine.

Re: A 'Barner Run to Bonneville
Wayne "Elmo-Rodge" ran just under 150mph. He had to abort at that point due to a failure in the rear axel. Speed week is ended for him. He still is happy about the results to that point.
Bonneville continues to amaze. The are many design approaches to the same goal. That is make high speed numbers. My.observations have been at course 3 only. The vehicles run the gamut We have yet to locate the Burbank car or see it make a run. |

Re: A 'Barner Run to Bonneville
8-14 was the last day for us being with the Bones. The Tom and Chuck odyssey heads to the HAMB in Joplin, MO via Lincoln, NE. We want to stop at Speedway Motors.
This afternoon was an interesting one. We were involved as the pit crew for a video production with Jessy Combs. This documentary follow her SCTA speed licensing qualifications. She is currently on Overhaulin' and All Girls Garage. The Dark Side racer was put into use. Jessy provided an impressive tow vehicle. She is fast learner. First pass at as rookie in an unfamiliar car qualified her for the next level. Her second pass was 172.4mph. This is a picture that 147mph flathead. It was built by a Y block guy, Ted Eaton. It dynoed at 185HP. |

Re: A 'Barner Run to Bonneville
Wow, some folks wearing shorts there! I always heard that you get burned where you definitely don't want to when you do that on the salt.
Heard a report from a friend that the salt was so dry this year that it was just like fine powder resulting in poor traction and spins. Did you guys see any of that? |

Re: A 'Barner Run to Bonneville
We hunted for that one and never found it. It is in the program book. It posted 253.994mph in '09. According to the SCTA daily results it only ran once on 8/11. That run max speed was 97.453mph. The nos posted are: 1/4mile - 96.433, 1mile - 92.904 and 2mile - 97.453. It looks like something went bad and could not be fixed.
