Trouble with repro light switch rod
I'm installing a seven tooth steering column in my early 29 Station Wagon (just to be correct). Unfortunately the reproduction light switch rod seems to be too large in diameter to drop down the steering shaft. Has anyone encountered this problem before?

Re: Trouble with repro light switch rod
Could the top of the shaft be "mushroomed" (squinched?) in a little? Have you tried it at the bottom end?

Re: Trouble with repro light switch rod
I'll check for obstructions, burrs, etc. The square end of the horn rod will insert about a half inch. When the round cross section is encountered it binds. One suggestion was that these reproduction rods need to be sanded with 80 grit at the transition from square to round cross section. I'll work on it.

Re: Trouble with repro light switch rod
sometimes someone uses the wrong wood drift key on the wheel. the wood drift key needs to be flat on the bottom, or you will push the slot down on the horn rod. take at 25/64 drill bit and run it down from the top it will open the shaft up to the right size.
