Default How to Haul a Car to South Dakota

OK I bought an un-restored, non-operable 53 ranch wagon in California. I am now trying to get it hauled to South Dakota. Any suggestions to how to get it here? I logged onto the internet car transporter sites but am getting the sense my information is being processed by some large computer in a room without windows someplace and quotes are higher than I thought they would be!

Any suggestions would be welcome. It can be an open trailer.

Do a car transporter search on both Fordbarn and HAMB. There are some private individuals who do a top notch job with good references. If you can handle it, pay for enclosed transport so your car won't get tampered with or damaged. Here's a HAMB start.

I have used uship many times. Shipped a couple times with the broker Montway. Expect about $1 per mile. $1600-$2000 for your car.

I had only considered road and weather hazards...had never thought about crooks and vandalism! I need to get out more!

Good tips. Thanks. I am following up on the HAMB link.

Thanks !

I think that is the first time anyone posted a link to my HAMB
photo album - there are pages of cars that I have hauled over
the years ....

Today I am in Ft. Wayne, IN - tomorrow I drop off in Homer, MI
then go pick up a 1942 Packard Clipper Sedan that is headed to
The National Packard Museum in Warren, Ohio.

Then I get to transport a rare genuine 1910 Sears Buggy from Pennsylvania
to Texas - then hopefully I can get to Phoenix to pick up a pair of Model A vehicles that are headed up to Tacoma, WA.

I will be available to haul down the West Coast to the Long Beach, CA area
in a few weeks ....

Dakotafarmboy,

There are 3 QUALITY transporters on the HAMB : BenD, Racinman & Myself. We all have ads in the Hamb O Dex section where you can see over 500 all positive feedback/references between us posted by the actual customers who have used our service in the past.

https://www.jalopyjournal.com/forum/...closed.614419/

https://www.jalopyjournal.com/forum/...nsport.635739/

https://www.jalopyjournal.com/forum/...nsport.614568/

I cannot help you at this time as I only have 2 spots left on my schedule for September (both in the eastern part of the country) & am always booked 3-6 weeks in advance. You may try Ben or Racinman Rick to see if they have a spot open for you.

If you must use Uship (which I would discourage you from doing) only give them your email adr, NOT your phone number. They are all brokers who will bother you up to 4 months after the job is done. Some call in the middle of the night.

God Bless

Good luck, I just bought UTV side by side in Romney West Va before i had a delivery price. it cost me 1572.00 to transport a 4 wheeler to Ruidoso NM. Two reasons, the US economy is booming and the summer time is when everyone moves. The can charge what they want, also a law went effect limiting how far a driver can go in a day. Trucks are monitored.
In December 2017, I had a 56 ford sedan shipped from Boonville MO. to Cocoa Fl. for 800.00.

I leave my car trailer home for long distance tows and rent a UHaul trailer.
They tow amazingly well.

Hint - check locations along your route for availability and cost to you home.
