Default Spun Bearing ???

What is the cause, and what is a proper fix ???
I've recently had an 8BA come to me with a spun rod bearing. All the other bearings look ok.

Two main causes.
1-An involved tolerance was out of spec.
2-Abuse.

The fix is, mag and measure the crank to see if it can be saved.
If ok, grind to next undersize.
Get a pair of NEW rods. Don't try to recondition a rod that has had a spun bearing.
Re-balance all parts.

Actually, the whole engine should be stripped to scratch and hot tanked.

You have to discover the problem and fix it or or will come back and bite you.You know where. There needs to be a detailed fact finding mission to get results. Hoping for a miracle post to appear here on this matter isn't much to rely on.Who did the last work, and to what details.Let your customer know the troubleshooting required and the costs and see if he is willing to go forward.

Pete has given sound response.

Also, I believe if the cause is #2..abuse in Pete's explanation above, the crank could be bent.

Dick.
