Re: 1931 coupe passenger door lock removal
I actually was able to replace the spring WITHOUT removing the handle, because I simply could not get the handle out. I was lucky, and my car currently has no interior and has the old brushed paint job. Eventually someday I'll work on getting the handle out before I completely finish the car however. At that point I may just be forced to cut the stinking thing off.

Re: 1931 coupe passenger door lock removal
I was unable to remove my right side handle because it was locked and I didn't have a key. I called a locksmith and he wanted $78.00 travel time plus $98.00 to pick the lock. So I took my portaband and cut the handle off at the outside of the trim piece. Had it out and new handle and lock on in about five minutes.

Re: 1931 coupe passenger door lock removal
port-a-band's are nice, but the problem I'm facing is that I want to save my handle/lock because I have the original key. I guess I'll cross that bridge again when the time comes. who knows.....by then, maybe all that penetrating fluid will have soaked in and the sucker will just slide right out.

Re: 1931 coupe passenger door lock removal
no, actually I haven't tried to remove it again. The door works fine with the new spring I managed to get in there so I don't really have a pressing desire to remove the dang thing.
