Check and make sure the rubber diaphragm inside the pump doesn't have a small pin hole in it. Also check to make sure gas is not going into your oil pan.

If it is a stroke issue, it's not likely that your rod stroke has changed. More likely your full stroke isn't being translated to the diaphram. This can happen in two ways: The rocker arm pivot point is wallowed out, or your pumpstand gasket is too thick.

I've checked alot of them, new cam stroke .200 As someone said, sometimes there is alot of slop in the pump arm. Alot of times I've brass up about 1/8in. on top of the rod. Check your fuel pressure with a guage. Should be around 3#. Walt

Thanks to the replies on the stroke length......I measured mine the best measurement I got was right at .200 plus or minus a few thousands. So the cam is ok. New pump on order at NAPA. I am getting a new rod also
mine has been welded on and looks like a beaver has been chewing on it the top end!

I just solved a fuel pump problem with my 8BA. If you do a search of threads on this site "8BA fuel pump" you will get several threads that address different problems. I have a dual action fuel pump on my 8BA and it works fine except after 20-30 minutes it starts to stall or hesitate, like a vapor lock. I kick in my electric and let it pump for a minute or two and everything is fime for 20-30 minutes. My pump was recently rebuilt so I was pretty sure that wasn't my problem. I took the push rod out and it measured a touch over 10 inches. The correct length is 10 1/16 inches. Look all over for a new rod and couldn't find one. Went to East Texas Fasteners and got a 7/16 water harden rod and made my own push rod. To allow for wear, I made my rod 10 1/8 inches because you have wear on both the cam end and the pump end. I used liquid gasket for the pump to engine to make sure I had enough lift. I think .200 is about right. Anyway have taken a couple 15 mile drives and no more hesitation. It was a hot day (Tyler, Texas has had 26 days of 3 digit temps and most likely the entire month of July will be in the triple digits) and it worked fine. Good luck, JBD
