Default Horn Switch Problem

I’m experiencing intermittent horn blowing in my ’28 roadster while driving. When I quickly press the button a few times, it stops. The button does feel right though, and the light switches are working as they should.
I bought the car over 30 years ago. At the time all the wiring was bad including the light/horn switch and horn rod. I replaced everything with repro stuff and I remember having some trouble making the light/horn switch work.
Before taking things apart I would appreciate any suggestions as how to attack this problem.
Thanks in advance, Robert

I had a similar problem and the root cause was that inside the light switch, the wire that connects from the horn motor to the spring-loaded horn contact was loose. That's the first place I'd look.

Sometimes the spring loaded horn contact in the middle of the wire loom contact plate wobbles and makes contact in the center hole in the upper, rotating plate and honks the horn while turning the steering wheel. Put a piece of shrink tubing on it, leaving the end clear to contact the end of the horn rod.

Thanks to both of you. This makes sense to me and as soon as I can get to this I'll let you know how it worked out.

I finally got around to fixing this. The problem was that the c-clip (retainer) which holds the spider on came off and disappeared. Amazingly, the light switch was still working. This would have been an easy fix except for removing and reinstalling the engine pan.
Thanks again, Robert
