Cool Ron rude: length of horn wire

Ron I burned my 6volt horn out, probably from the replacement horn cover screw. I was going over the horn threads from the past and wondered if you(or anyone else) knows the approximate length of the 20 gauge wire. A motor shop I use a few miles away has the wire, but unless I unwind, if possible, the windings, I don't know how much I need. This will be a new experience for me,but seems relatively easily. Tia. Chuck,

6 Volt Horns:

(1) the 2 field coils are wound in opposite directions.
(2) Original field coils wire is 20 gauge.
(3) a. 45turns using coated wire.
b. 6 to 7 turns per layer, not perfect is ok.
(4) after completing, spray with varnish or insulating enamel.

If you need the armature re- wound, contact Jim Diehl in Cadillac, MI,
his e-mail is: [email protected] .

He also will rebuild the horn, need the complete horn, he rewinds the fields and armature, installs a bearing in the motor housing for the armature, replaces the brush holders, connectors, and gaskets if needed, guarantee for 1 year. I do not know what his prices are as it has been quite some time since I last talked to him.

Ron

Jim Diehl is the one that gave me the gauge, He also gave me the info for a person who wnts to wire his horn for 12 Volt.

I've rewound a couple sets of horn fields, and I posted the size and length of the wire here, but that might have been back when Shelly owned Fordbarn, so it might not turn up with a search. I don't recall the length, but was thinking it was about 20 feet.

Thought I read that the wire is supposed to be 23 gauge wire? Not correct?

Same thing happened to me, I went to the shop to get some wire and the kid asked me how long am I'm going to need it?
I told told him I'm hooking up my headlights so I'm going to want it for quite awhile.
