Default Flemmings Pumpkin Run..... Not too early to tell you, it is no more..

It is official they will not allow the Pumpkin Run to go on in the Township.

Too many complaints about the traffic by the people who live there so the township has decided to no longer allow it.

You will have to find something else to do on the first Saturday in November.

Kevin, thanks for letting us know.

It appears that regulation in our great country is destroying so many of these shows.

it does make you wonder how long the "hobby" will be around..............?

everything is diminishing, except my waistline!

Keep in mind I live around 4-5 miles from the site.

It was not regulations.

The residences (which there are hundreds around the site) were not to happy it would take them hours to get anywhere. We are talking trying to drive a mile or less.

Then you have the problem of public safety. If something were to happen the area was completely grid locked. Plus you have a huge crowd of people and a local system that likely would not be able handle the emergency properly (I used to do volunteer rescue here too).

So it was just a matter of risk reduction for Egg Harbor Township. They do not have the extra cash to fund the public safety needed to allow the event to go on which means they also could not afford the insurance premium if anything bad were to happen. Throw in a large number of residences that were not very happy and vocal about it. They have no choice but to cancel the event.

I can not blame them for doing this.

To be honest our area was screwed over by the casinos. A master plan was put in place before the casinos were to be built. This required upgrading the road system before the housing went into place. I believe the road Flemming's is on was one of the roads. Of course, not a dime went into infrastucture improvements but thousands of houses were added. So on a normal day traffic gets messed up in those areas around Flemmings. In fact, only recently have several major intersections that feed into that area have been changed to handle the daily traffic.

Of course, the casinos have lobbied for and received tax abatements and now all of Atlantic county has to pay more to keep Atlantic City alive, yet the casinos are still making tons of money.

So please do not believe this is regulated out for no reason. It was a significant liability for the city that is cash strapped because Atlantic City finances and politics. There is even a link into the current POTUS actions in AC, but I will not go there now.

Steve, Unfortunately Harry Flemmings was a life long resident. Pumpkin Run was the name of a creek that ran through the property, hence the name. It used to be Flemmings Junk Yard and it was over 100 acres, of which was partially cleared out to make vendor and parking space. You never knew what you were going to run across. I literally stubbed my toe on a 12 cyl Lincoln block once. I was reading about Mercers once time and ran across a piece with a Mercer at P.R. a couple of years ago, which gives you an idea the range of the types of vehicles one might expect to see there. Kevin lives very close and knows Harry for a long time, Whereas I only knew about the place for maybe ten or so years and I didn't live close. Well Airports and Junkyards are at the top of city planners "Get rid of" list. I'm sure it will make everyone who isn't a gear head very happy to see this "Eyesore" gone! I hope someone, somewhere will build a "Bureaucrat Induced stress and anger test meter" to measure the aggravation that they cause with this nonsense. Face it, It's the "Low class, plebian cars that they don't like. If it were an arstsy-fartsy. wine and cheese art show that was clogging their roads, they'd revel in it.

I think the way we should really look at this action as democracy in action.
What I wrote before applies less and this applies more:

The local residents elected people to represent their interests.
Those local residents were quite vocal to those elected people about not being interested in the show to happening again so the elected people did their job and said no more show.

This will be my last post on this subject, but... I learned to fly in the 1990s and two of the airports I used to fly in and out of are now closed, one to become soccer fields and the other to become a cemetery. The one, Twin Pines in Pennington was used by Charles Lindbergh. The owner, Bill Weasner was a "Old Car guy" like us. The other was Preston field in Marlboro. Little by little, General Aviation is being crowded out by shopping malls, soccer fields, and cemeteries. AOPA estimates a loss of G. A. airports by one a week or about one a or about fifty per year.
Junkyards are the same! I never gave it much thought until a friend in Livingston called me and asked if I had any junkyards nearby. I asked what's wrong with the ones near him and he told me that they're all gone. They ain't no more! Forced out by North Jersey Yuppies who wanted to make everything "Nice". All they need is a good excuse. Sure maybe Zion rd couldn't handle the traffic, but you can't convince me that the Egg Harbor Committee isn't happy as hell that they've "Broken" Flem(m)ing and the planning board hasn't already got plans for the land. If you raced at Wall stadium, you probably know my friend Zonker Glotzbach (RIP). He went through this same scenario with Jackson Twnsp and the stress of it contributed to his untimely death a few years ago. I shall say no more!
