Smile How to installe metal glass channels?

I need to install my metal glass channels:

http://www.snydersantiqueauto.com/2766

onto my windows.

I already have the glass bedding

http://www.snydersantiqueauto.com/2770

at hand.

When inserting the glass incl bedding there is WAY to much play. Are these economy channels designed such that you need to squeeze the channel with for instance a vice to reduce the gap (in order to make a PERMANENT gap reduction)?

Another question while I am at it.
Is it true that there is no rubber seal on the OUTSIDE where the glass is sliding? In modern cars this seal prevents water from entering the inside of the door. On the inside I have this aluminum profile with a rubber lip which is sandwiched under the garnish. But I cant figure out if there is a lip missing on the outside.

... so if you are standing outside the car with a closed window and start splashing water onto the window with a water hose, basically ALL water enter the inside of the door exiting through a small drain hole ... and no water wets the outside, lower part of the door?

I too thought the metal track was far too wide.

I did not trust the oil/wet swelling rubber method, so I went to an auto glazier and got him to run a bead of windscreen urethane in channel and sunk glass into it.

Waited 24 hours and there is no way it will ever come out .

And yeh, a big gap and no seal on outside at lower edge of glass and top door skin .

All water goes straight inside.

For what its worth, try to squeeze channel smaller or use thicker packing tape.

If you glue the glass in, you or whoever may be working on the glass later, will not be happy.

Why will you ever be ' working ' on the glass ever again ?

If the glass broke, you would simply cut enough urethane away and glue another in .

I just finished the job and installed one window in the door. I realize that:

1. Due to the net weight of the glass itself
2. And that the regulator is locked in steel profile/track

... I think I could install the window without any bedding or glue at all. Due to gravity the glass will push downwards at all times. Only if you are riding really bumpy roads the glass might jump out of the profile.

Further door/window question:

On the driver side I have a handle with no lock and a lever/stick on the inside to lock the door.
On the passenger side I have the handle with the lock ... but do I also have the inside locking lever/stick? I have installed it - but it has no function - maybe something mechanical is missing inside the door? It works beautifully on the drivers side.

Another window question:

Concerning the REAR window. I have this rather heavy rubber profile that goes all the way around the glass (U shaped). But it just does not like the curved bends at the corner - it wrinkles ... how do I manage to seal the corners?

I've only done a couple rear windows, but I put some super glue on the rubber at the corners, then clamped a couple pieces of thin wood over each corner and let it set for a few days.

If you have wrinkles in the corners the rubber is too long. You need to put it on the glass, hold one end while pulling the rubber tight to stretch around the glass until there are no wrinkles, then mark the end so you can cut to length. Remove from glass and use super glue to connect the ends, then you should need to stretch it to install on glass. If it still has wrinkles it's still too long cut it apart and repeat the procedure and re-glue the ends together. When properly fitted just stretch it onto the glass, no glue needed.
