Default '36 oil pans and oil pumps

The '36 engine that I am working on had an 18-6600 snorkel style oil pump, a baffled pan and a 4" long drain tube in the rear main cap. The engine had good oil pressure, both hot and cold. In anticipation of installing an NOS 68-6600 oil pump (with the 4 1/2" diameter intake reservoir), the baffle in the oil pan was removed. With the 68- type pump installed, the end of the rear main drain tube is against the top of the pump reservoir. The choices seem to be to use the snorkel type pump in an unbaffled pan, or shorten the rear main drain tube, which I am reluctant to do without knowing that others have done it without reducing oil pressure.
