AV8 banjo rear choice ?
I have found a banjo rear out of a late 30's Ford that has the radius rods bolted to the bottom of the brake backing plates and to the closed drive shaft housing. I've been told these are the ones to use for an AV8 project. Will the width of the axles fit under Model A fenders? If not, what banjo rear do you suggest for the AV8 project?

Jack, Here's a link to all your answers about banjos. This article was in Street Rodder, January 2003.

Re: AV8 banjo rear choice ?
I used a 39 truck rear axle and torque tube, welded some spring perches to fit stock A springs(reverse eye),had to shorten the drive shaft/tube and radius rods.Worked good, the only problem I have ,is to much down angle in the tube(BACK TO FRONT)which is causing a small headache now, but got it taken apart and trying to fix it.That's one thing to keep your eye on.

Re: AV8 banjo rear choice ?
I'm also in the early stages of an AV8 and here's a thread about A spring mounts on a later rear end. I've got the parts to do it similar to the photos down just before the end of the thread...

Re: AV8 banjo rear choice ?
Richard Lacy has mentioned a seal that mounts between the banjo casting and the torque tube to keep rear end grease in the rear when the torque tube angles down going forward. Perhaps someone else knows who's got that.
