I use 4x4 and 2x4 cribbing because it's:
  1. cheap
  2. strong
  3. easy to procure or re-purpose
  4. can be adjusted as high or low as needed in 1.5" and 3.5" increments
  5. doesn't take up much storage space

Same here, I have a collection of 6x6, 4x4 and 2x4 sections about 2 ft long. Can block up about anything on a solid base.
