Default Timing Gear Inspection cover oil leak

We just finished replacing the timing gear and pan gaskets on a 31 Slant.
Prior to taking apart there was an oil leak around the junction of the timing gear inspection cover and the pan. There were other leaks and now those have been corrected. Oil still leaking around the bottom of the timing inspection cover where it joins with the oil pan.

Suggestions for correcting this leak appreciated.

Thanks

*Timing gear was trashed because someone had assembled the plunger without the compression spring!

Bad gasket OR the bolt on the bottom of inspection cover is a oil pan bolt, not tight?

Do either cover bolt holes go clear through? If so, oil may be wicking through the bolt threads & coming out through the lockwasher slit. If so, a little #2 Permatex on the bolt threads. Permatex #2 adheres good, even on oily threads. Especially on Trans & Diff plugs, when they WEEP a little. (SO SAD!)

Yes like Bill said check to see if any of the bolts go into the crankcase. I use Indian Head shellac on the threads to seal them.
Also when installing a pan I make sure to cut flush with a razor blade any little bit of the paper gasket that can sometimes stick up a bit at the timing cover joints. Then I put just a very small dab of gasket sealer at that point just to make sure that any oil can not get past. Usually there is small amount of height difference between those pieces and the block.

It was leaking at this location which started the project to begin with. Turned a good decision when the timing gear was discovered. I think I will pull the cover and use RTV red after I inspect the bolts. Looks like it is right at the seam of the oil pan and the timing cover intersect. Rest of the pan cover and crank is rope is dry.
