Fuel Pump Checkout
I just rebuilt the fuel pump on our '39 coupe (thanks to parts from ken ct and Mac Van Pelt), and have installed it on the engine. I wanted to do a checkout before I connected both the supply and output lines, so I had my son turn over the engine while I felt for suction on the input and exhaust at the output. Unfortunately, I felt neither. What could be problem be? Do I need to prime the pump (I do have an electric fuel pump, so I can energize that to do that), or does that mean that the drive shaft is not seated in the rocker arm coupling?

Re: Fuel Pump Checkout
Always feel for suction and output before you even hook it up to any thing. It can be checked on the bench. Havent any idea what you did in there so its kind of hard to diagnose whats wrong.Gaskets under the valves, facing the rite way[1 is up+1 is down] in the rite holes.Try priming the carb. Enough gas in tank.I don't mean 2-3 gal. OR call me. 1-203-260-5945 cell.

Take the pump off and stroke it by hand. You should be able to hear the air passing through the valves. and sucking one side, blowing on the other. The pushrod may be worn or mismatched. Mart. |
