Default Vintage wheels swap meet was great !!

Vintage Wheels ( Scott Willis and crew) was a very good event with no rain and tons of stuff for sale!!! Good job guys.......

Someday i will write a book on swap meets ! its lifes most interesting people for sure.
I seen old friends ( that i only see once a year) and customers that have purchased for us for years. I am presently dividing the customer base into groups ( comical for sure).
One group would be the "flippers ", i had a new mallory electronic for early flathead laying on the table. people ( many) would pick it up and remove the distributor clips look inside and lay it down on the table!! After seeing this happen a few times i would greet them with "do you have a early flathead ???" and everyone of them said no i dont. Thats what that fits i would say, and once in fustration i said then put it down !!!!! grrrrrr

I always take a box of loose stuff that really has no value (30-40 items) just for the serious to look thru , keeps them busy and often times after fondling every item they might actually buy something else ! I would say after a few minutes of thrashing thru the box , hey i would take $20 for the box and everthing and include a lid for the box. No sale , then a few minutes later i would say how about $15 for the entire box??? Still no sale !! After a few more minutes i would say , how about if i gave you $10 to take it all and get it out of here?? They would just walk away ! Oh well another group called the "searchers" ??

But i gotta say i love it !!!!!!!!

I was there also and got a chance to talk with you about rebuilding my 40 helmet distributor. I will be getting it pulled soon and headed your way. Hopefully in the next week or so. I’m also new to the Flathead world, been building and involved in the old car hobby for 45 years but never messed with a Flathead.

Funny about the box of misc parts, I was trying to give away a truck chassis once( just frame, axles and tires), I got all kinds of calls with questions like” does it run?”
I got tired of it and relisted it for $500.
Within a week I had it sold. go figure.

Then there are the vendors with all this nice stuff that want all the money and then some for it. Their space looks the same at every meet. I call them the traveling museum.

Ain't that the truth! I learned a long time ago where not to spend my time after a short glance.

They are likely on orders from on high to "get rid of that stuff"... If they were to succeed they would not have the excuse to go to the swap meet!

Some more on that junk box. One guy sorted thru the junk box found some cool parts and arranged them on the table. I asked if he wanted to buy those parts and he said NO i just got them out for you , look at this some new 58 Chev back up lamp lenses and a stainless trailer ball etc , and he walked away...
Later a friend asked what i wanted for the new stainless ball ( i dint even know i had it) and i sold it to him for lunch ( a brat and a diet coke)....
Presently working on my next junk box ........

Another classification to add:
The "Got ones" , these are the guys that travel with a group (usually wearing a Mustang T shirt) and pick up all your stuff on the table telling the group what it is , how it works ( often wrong) and the fact they have "got one or more" at home for half the amount yours is. I usually respond with "i need some more of these could i buy yours??"

May I jump in? I really try to price my items reasonabily and I understand haggling is part of the game. I actually love the dance of going back and forth.

Two of my favorite swap meet dudes are the low ballers and "cash" dudes.

1) Low Ballers: Part A is $100. They offer $20 saying they saw it at another guy's spot for way less. My response: Better get back to that table and get it before someone else does, but you can have mine for $100.

2) Cash dudes: Part A is $100. They throw out, "$50 bucks, CASH!" My response. "Well, banking hours are over and, unfortunately, I'm not set up to take checks or credit cards, so sure, $100 cash will do."

Good stuff , i will add Low ballers and cash dudes to my list .

I have an old taillight , 20s maybe perfect shape , stainless with big glass lense , i started out wanting $50 for it , everytime someone offered 20-30 for it i just raise the price after they walk away $10 , its up to $80 now and i just changed the tag to $90. Figure it will sell someday for $200???
