1947 shock dogbones
previous post(9-28-19) for offshore dogbone tapers, that spun in shock tapered holes due to be machined slightly undersize and would not hold,to allow tightening of the nuts.I pressed paper against tapered area,to make a pattern of the tapered area.Cut out the pattern, and marked a piece of .002" brass shim stock.I put Gorilla super glue on the tapered area, wrapped the brass shim to the taper, and wrapped it with a rubber band, and let it fully cure for 2 days.Reassembled dogbone to the shock, squeezed it into place with a large pair of adjustable pliers, and marked the end of the stud to see if it would rotate while tightening the nuts.Tightened nuts, and the stud was securely locked into tapered shock bores, and absolutely no rotation of the stud and taper of the dogbone.

Re: 1947 shock dogbones
You were reworking a defective part rather than returning it, correct? I doubt the glue matters since the friction fit is the key. Hopefully they work as you expect.

Re: 1947 shock dogbones
Recheck it after a while of driving, I have always used original NOS, find them in the 1$ boxes under the tables at flea markets----

Re: 1947 shock dogbones
the only purpose for the glue, was to keep the shim in place while I got it all together in the tapered holes.I was imagining it all coming apart, before getting it together, and ending up with a massive headache.Glue was the only thing I could come up with.I think the friction fit is ok,because I marked the ends of the studs before tightening down the nuts, and there was absolutely no rotation of the taper in the hole, and I put a good bit of pressure on the wrench.Wish I could have pictured it.
