Default 1936 Instrument dash light switch

Got all the lights working but the glove box clock. Now when I turn on the instrument panel light switch within seconds it feels like it is on fire. Is the switch going bad or is there another issue. If it is the switch were can I get one, I don't see them in any catalogs

Something is drawing a lot of current. Might try disconnecting one connection at a time and see if the problem area can be identified.

The switch contacts could be going bad or someone may have attached some extra lights or an accessory on to that switch circuit. No one is reproducing that switch to my knowledge in either the 36 or 35 configuration. It's possible that someone is/can rebuild yours or maybe you could do it yourself.

If I'm understanding the part description it's the switch that is under the dash and it turns the lights to your gauges on? If that is correct I just got a new one from Joes Antique fords in MA.

Here is a couple of pictures. The switch is top left above radio. the other from under the dash. Also, how does it come out

As far as removal, gently squeeze the two metal arms on each side of the switch body together and you should be able to fenniest it thru the dash panel.

As far as heating, assuming its not an electrical wiring/cable issue, I had a situation where the two vertical electrical posts had to be separated with a thin piece of non conductive material... it seemed when I would pull or push the switch knob, the two vertical posts would touch enough to heat up where your two wires are connected.

hopes this helps, Jim
