Default Old farmer fix?

I'm rebuilding the brakes on my '31 roadster project and thought I would pass along what appears to be an old farmer fix.
I'd bet someone did this the get a little more adjustment out of old worn out front brakes.
This is an old shoe that was removed from the front brakes that I laid on the backing plate for illustration.
Unless I'm confused, the adjusting shafts are installed in reversed position so that the point of the adj shaft contacts the adjusting cone instead of having the bevel of the adj shaft mate with the bevel of the adjusting cone.
All four shoes on the front are that way and I'm wondering what I'm gonna find on the rears.
It's amazing what people did when times were tough!

Maybe it was just a mistake during the previous rebuild. Were the linings and drum badly worn?

It is possible the last rebuilder just mistakenly installed the rear shoe to the front, or didn't watch how he took them off.

The linings were actually pretty good and close to new thickness but the drums were worn to the limit.
All four front brake shoes were assembled that way so I'm guessing it was an attempt to prolong the life of the front brakes without going to the expense of replacing the brake drums.

I have taken apart enough Model A assemblies to understand that if something can be put together backwards someone will do it.
