Default model b engine and 32 trans in a model a frame

OK, I have put the front axle and rear end in the model a frame. Now it is time to install the model b engine and 32 tranny in the frame. Any suggestions?

You will need to buy or fabricate mounts for the pedals and front wishbone. Check to see if your u joint cover fits, they changed the bolt pattern at some point. Your Model A rear motor mounts will not work, the bolt holes on the flywheel covers are in a different location between A and B (they just look that they are in the same location until you look carefully). They may have a float-a-motor mount for this application. When you said you put the front and rear end in I assume they are Model A. What year is your Model A?

The frame and body is 28. I am also installing a Mitchell over drive driveshaft. I heard that snyders makes a bracket for the 32 tranny.

I am in the process of installing a 34 pickup engine and transmission in my 28 open pickup I am using the front and rear float-a-moter mounts. I am not using the rear transmission mount. As I recall I am using the model a front cover. I can send you some pictures if you would like. Send me your email address.

Try Sacramento Vintage Ford. They are way out here up in Sacramento, left coast. But, if you can not locate anything closer ?

Decided to use the model b front motor mount and drill two 1/2 inch holes in model a cross member. As far as the rear mount, the 32 tranny has a bracket near the middle cross member of model a frame so I will make a bracket to support the rear of tranny. I also just rented the drive shaft puller from Mitchell mfg in California. It cost $35 and I can use it for 2 weeks. Wont be long before the new od drive shaft is installed.

I called them and made the purchase. Once I get the puller I can install the Mitchell and then put all drivetrain together . Then I can fabricate the rear tranny mounts to the center cross member. Going to use the model b front engine rubber mount set between tranny and bracket.

I just thought you had your chassis hanging on the wall to save room.

I did hang the chassis from the ceiling to save room. Chain falls are nice that way. I have the subframe ordered but plenty of work to do on the drivetrain. Got the puller today and it worked sweet. Will install Mitchell tomorrow.

Overdrive drive shaft installed. Way too much fun. I had straps and ropes holding things up and pulling things together. I just want to mount a seat on it and go for a ride. Next I will support transmission, wishbone, and mount clutch and brake pedals.

I have been checking with all the antique parts companies and it seems that the kit that was used to install the model b and 32 tranny is discontinued. if any one has one I can copy I would be much in their debt. other wise I will have to get creative and build my own.

Today I will attempt to install the 32 pedal bracket in the car. I will take some pictures if it goes well.

Just a thought but wouldn't you be better starting with a pedal bracket that is already designed for hydraulic brakes (which I assume you are running)? A better question might be are you running mechanical or hydraulic brakes?

32,
My application is different than yours but we used '32 pedals with a Tardell '32 type k member.
Our set up is a '35 transmission, '48-'52 F1 bell housing and 8ba engine and ran into a similar issue you're facing with the wishbone mount. Ended up fabricating a "belly band", something not uncommon in the old days. With regard to your earlier post about making something, we started with cardboard, and then made a mock up with 1/4" or 3/16" foam core. We used that as the pattern for the piece.

Iam using mechanical brakes. Thanks for the pictures. That is a very impressive kit you put together. A lot of fabricating. I did mount the 32 brake bracket and pedals and I believe it is going to work fine. I did not use a k member, but it may have been a good idea. I am considering splitting the wishbone. Speedway sells a kit to support it from the frame rails. I will have some pictures tomorrow.

Wishbone support all made. I used a piece off1/4 inch plate and mounted it to the under side of the transmission. Then I put 2- 1/2 inch holes and 1- 3/4 inch hole to mount the 32 wishbone ball support.

Do you think I should weld a couple of gussets into my wishbone support. I used 1/4 in steel.
