What is the best way to adjust hand throttle. Mine goes halfway down before speed increases. Thanks John

Quite often the linkage is bent, especially the long thin part that connects to the rear of the carb link. This is a forged part, and can be easily bent to the correct shape while cold. No heat needed.

With the engine not running, have someone press the gas pedal down inside the car while you look at the carburetor. See if the gas pedal will open it all the way. If not, gently, with your fingers, bend the long thin arm of the throttle assembly (the one that connects to the carb) toward the front of the car. Just a little at a time. Until the gas pedal will open the throttle plate all the way. Once you fix that, the hand throttle should behave more like normal.

On mine the bell crank and post the hand throttle moves was so worn I had to press out the post and weld up both the post and bell crank to bring them back to stock , it now works with just slightest motion.

When the hand throttle is set up "just right', 2 knotches down gives a slightly faster idle & eliminates the Zenith stall, when coming to a HARD stop.
In unpredictable town traffic, I just leave it set there.
It's also a great "cruise control"!

Does anyone have the correct angle these should be bent at? I have about 20 of these in various states of disrepair. Probably could restore about a dozen from the pieces. Rod

I put my protractor on my 28 linkage, and as close as I can measure, it looks to be 17 1/2 degrees forward bend, with the gentle bend in the center of the upright supports.

It's HARD to straighten throttle assys from dimensions & angles. FIRST, just make SURE the carb opens FULLY when you floor the throttle. Then just "eyeball" stuff & determine what needs to be "tweeked"

I am sure these were made at an exact angle when new not just haphazardly bent into adjustment on the assembly line. Rod

what are the correct outside measurements on the 3 control rods installed on the car .Mine are 6 3/8 ,17 7/16, 10 31/32. Thanks John

A "Zenith stall when coming to hard stop" means your float level is set incorrectly. The idle adjustment is set at the carb not with the hand throttle lever.

With the throttle lever in the upper most position the carb should be at idle. There are 2 rod linkages between the hand throttle lever and the carb. Check to make sure they are the correct lengths before making any adjustments. As soon as the hand lever is moved downward you should see the throttle on the carb move off the idle position. Check to see if the small lever that is on the steering column is working properly. This small lever is pinned to the throttle lever shaft and if the pin is missing, worn, or was improperly replaced it could be moving before the linkages move causing a delay in response at the carb.
