Partly because it is not an original item.

Mine came w a nicely made w hems & cut perfect. Truck had a brake fluid leak Probly in storage that got left a long time & destroyed the carpeting. Looked like a bought item but starting to think interior shop Custom made.

Re: 1940 pickup carpeting?
Try a convertible top shop. I had one do an entire interior, plus the trunk on one of my hot rods. The cost was a fraction of any custom upholstery shop and the workmanship was very high quality.

Back in the day, it was tuck & roll from Tiajuana
Then ever after, fish out stale french fries from between the tucks! ...And loose change for gas

Re: 1940 pickup carpeting?
Bought inexpensive black loop carpet at Home Depot and cut my own. doesn't have binding, but very easy to cut to shape. There are some products you can find online to bind the edges. Otherwise custom from auto upholstery shop.
Not original, so it all depends on your budget. |

Re: 1940 pickup carpeting?
When I had my Model A I picked up a rug at Home Depot that almost matched original carpet, made patters (paper) and cut to fit. Picked up some trim material at JoAnn Fabrics and used a glue gun to bind to carpet.. Came out quite nice vs buying new from one of the vendors. FWIW

Re: 1940 pickup carpeting?
I've often cut my own carpet(yes Home Depot has some good looking indoor/outdoor carpet).I then take it to an upholstery shop and have the binding installed.

Re: 1940 pickup carpeting?
Check your local Yellow Pages (do they still even have them?) or contact some carpet stores for a person that does carpet binding. Should be easy to find one.

Re: 1940 pickup carpeting?
For my wife’s 40 pickup I am building I bought a $20 piece of medium grey carpet which is plenty for the firewall and floor. I will the get some matching or contrasting vinyl from JoAnns, cut long 2” strips, and bind it myself. I have done this several times with great success .....
