nice post put up by pete, but if you have an older model they are set up to have a separate bulb for each circuit. i just did an old one, a signalstat model 700, it needs relays to function on your existing single bulb tail lights, so what model of switch do you have?

There are several different units. The wire count coming out of the switch unit will ID the bulb arrangement I think. Then there is the wire color coding.

Make sure your turn signal bulbs are large enough to operate the relay

It all depends what you have for stop and tail lights such as many trucks -trucks and
trailers have 4 rear lights in which any signal switch will work (no need for the stop
light switch) 2 rear lights then you need to tie into the stop light switch as diagrams
above....The signal switch doesn't care 6 12 or 24 volts ITS the flasher voltage...

Unless your truck has been rewired; it has only one brake light wire serving one or two rear lights and single contact sockets up front for the park lights.

While there is nothing wrong with the previous replies

It would be useful to have both the wire count on the signal switch and a run down on your existing truck wiring to furnish advice accurate to your situation.

On my '48 F-1 I had to replace the parking light bulb sockets with double filament bulb sockets, The after market sockets were a little smaller so I built up solder on them to make them fit tight.
