Default engine test stand??

Hi,

Do any of you use an Engine/Transmission test stand with your flat head?
If yes, where did you buy it or get plans to build it? I'm considering getting or building one. About how much did it cost?
Thanks, Bruce/CT

There have been several past threads on the topic, might try a search.

Hi; A frame with the necessary mounts... Some fellows use an actual front of a Ford frame. Height and wheels your option. Note; Many engine builders don't like to run in a new engine on a stand as there is no load. Newc

If you have any skills at all, I believe you'll be much better off building one rather than buying one. I built mine so I can run a variety of engines (I have flatheads, early hemi's, an Olds Rocket, and an SBC or two). I wanted to be able to run them all, so I used an old "universal" engine stand to make the rear mount. Mine also has a provision to run 6 volts or 12 volts (which is much more difficult than you would think at first). It all depends on what you want to do. My personal opinion is to not let the "naysayers" talk you out of building a test stand. I find mine invaluable for initial startup of new engines and checking out used ones. If you have a one time situation, a used tire will serve, but it's not an ideal way to go.
