Re: identify 59 Flathead V-8
Thanks for the info Brian. I'm no expert, but going over some pics of articles I've saved, I would agree with you regarding the features you pointed out. From the few pics I have of my block, I have no markings cast into the bell hounding other than the number 4. At the moment, the block is wrapped in plastic, and I don't won't to remove it as I'm doing some reno work in my workshop.
Attached is the rebuild tag which shows it listed as a "C69T.A". Does the "T" mean truck? I do have the heavy duty oil pan with the oval shaped clean-out. Also, I thought I read somewhere that truck engines were factory relieved. Is this correct? |

Re: identify 59 Flathead V-8
Here's a closeup of the cast marking in front of number 5 cylinder. Very hard to tell if the "6" was orginally a "5" and was ground down to make it look like a "6", but that would seem like a stretch.
When I look at it closely, it seems that you can almost makes out the number "5" underneath the number "6", especially the vertical and horizontal straight portions of the number 5. |

Re: identify 59 Flathead V-8
I've marked up the pic where you could possibly make out a number "5". Would this have been at the factory on the fly?

Re: identify 59 Flathead V-8
Ziggster,
I believe you are right,,,,that 6 doesn’t hardly look right. When I enlarge the pic,,,,it definitely looks like a 5 next to the 9. And the 5 looks like the correct font. What do you think ? A lot can happen to these engines in 70 or 80 years . It’s still an awesome engine,,,you are gonna be happy with it. Tommy |
