Hey guys,
I've got these shocks I'm planning on using on a current project. It is my understanding that these shocks were used from'38-'48.
I've found info on rebuilding, but not any info on where you can get parts and/or seals.
Please understand, I am not looking for a rebuilding service, I am going to deal with these myself. This is a budget project, and my labor is cheap.
So, I was wondering if anyone knew where I can get seals or anything else for these before I open them up and start figuring it out. Thanks!

The ones I fixed up and used on my 33 and 34 I modified the end cap to seal on the body with an o ring and machined it to accept a modern hydraulic seal.easy, they dont leak.

Hello folks. If you look at my profile you'll see that I very seldom post. But I come and try to read/learn.

I've been searching (Google, here, the H.A.M.B., etc.) for years to find information on how to rebuild these things and to find out why it's so expensive to get yours rebuilt.

So Ill be the first to admit that old guys like me aren't as good or savvy on the computers as some of you are. Maybe cretin or someone else on here would share the information on how to rebuild these.

Lawire posted quit a bit of information and photos when he was rebuilding his. You should be able to find them using search.

First you have to get the arm off ----you need a very good puller

My front shocks had been re-built when I got the car, I cleaned up the rear ones, filled with oil and have no leaks yet. Might try that first to save cost. Al

Houdaille used to sell kits with all the hard and soft parts and their service bulletin #18080 gave all the instructions. Now days, it's very important to find the best core shocks you can. There are no new hard parts to be had that I'm aware of so it's critical that they be in good condition. Most rebuilders find the nearest to correct soft parts that are available and make them work the best that they can.

Bill Wzorek used to be our resident shock man but health problems forced him to turn his business over to someone else that doesn't frequent this site. A few of the folks still do their own but I don't know what they use for soft parts. If you look at the Houdaille SB-18080 in the old car manual project, you can see the differences that are out there between the early type shocks and the later ones. Another problem is that there were some aftermarket manufacturers out there so it is important to get the real "Who-Die" shocks.
