Default 28 Tudor top wood wooden fit puzzle for newby.

I have had flatheads for near 40 years. But now have a 28 Tudor project. My question is regarding the top wood which the car came with. It appears new but the fit is perplexing.
The body at the top where the side rails go measures 43" at the front 42 1/2 at the centre and 42 1/8 at the rear.
The bows we have measure 41 5/16. Which to us says they are 5/8 too short to meet the body holes.
So is it the body or the wood.

I will look at the print later to confirm but my instinct would say it is the wood.

If that crusty grey metal is the roof channel inner edge going from front to rear you need a wooden strip in there first. Anything up to 2 inches will be OK. Then chissel out a recess to slip the end of the bows into. Did you answer your own question ? You mention the side rails. Fit them first.

Even with the pic Mitch posted it would appear that the OPs top bows are indeed to short. So just use wider rails.

Just asking as the body has had very amateur play body work. The roof seam has been covered with filler I think. The car is not real rusty at all just a couple of chicken wire patches and probably primer over junk. The bows appear like a kit . We just want to make sure it's not the body before we make longer bows. Plus the front two side rails are absent.

On my 28 Tudor the bows are 41 3/4 inches long. The center of the holes are 3/8 inches in from the ends of the bow.
