Question valve cover paint

what to paint my valve covers on '58 ford 332? Hi-temp primer and then hi-temp paint finish or have them powder coated?

Either should work fine as long as the surface prep work is done well.
I don't know what powder coating costs but unless it's for a super nice show car it may not be worth the investment.

Back in the ol days, there was no hi-temp primer available to the public round here anyways. I just used regular grey automotive primer, then Hi-temp gloss black engine enamel on the rocker covers for my '55, 292V8. That was back in the 1980's and they still look like brand new. Prior to painting, I had tripped them to bare metal and sanded off the rust spots and polished the whole thing with fine steel wool, acetone bath, then primered. But now, Hi-temp primer spray cans are in every hardware store, so you shouldn't need to worry either way. I have always used 160 degree thermostat.

I can't think of how many I did with just engine paint, no primer. Get them squeaky clean, degrease as much as possible then give them a good wash with dishwashing soap. Heck, I'd throw them in the dishwasher.

I am of the same school as bob to count how many I did over the years would take an hour or more including complete engines.clean and paint pretty simple.if any doubt check your daily if you can see under the mass of plastic the engines do not have primer never did.
