This is not the best picture, but it shows how straight the arm is.

The judging standards also has great illustrations for the variety of throttle assemblies.

It appears that your arm is quite distorted.

I also note that the connecting rod between the steering column and the throttle linkage is all bent and distorted. I think it should be straight.

Passenger side image - not the clearest photos.

A related question; How do you get this newer style apart: The old style had a pin you could drive out and remove the arm on the carb side of the assembly

I ordered a new spring and new rods today. Question, when replacing the spring does it just slide up over the piece on the carb side or do you have to take the whole thing apart?

I would unclip the rod at the crosshaft and make sure the carb throttle closes OK, then bend the arm straight so the link will clip on without opening the throttle some. Also make sure the linkage doesn't rub the floorboard. Where the linkage is bolted to the rear of the block, it should curve forward. I'll post a picture of it, if I can find it.
Tom,
When you say, Where the linkage is bolted to the rear of the block, it should curve forward. I'll post a picture of it, if I can find it. A picture as they say is worth a thousand words and would be greatly appreciated!!

Thanks Farrell, that's exactly what I was hoping someone would post. Now a guy can see how the lever should look, nice and straight.

I just got home from installing a rebuilt engine, and he had the earlier style crosshaft, so I was unable to get the picture I wanted.

The two mounting bolts should have lock washers.

There should also be some brass horseshoe shims between the two mounting ears and the block. The brass shims are to equal the gasket thickness used on the flywheel cover to block. Some people don't use a gasket, but only a thin coat of RTV and also don't use the brass shims.

When attempting to bend the rod and metal top part is it best to heat it up or just bend it cold and hope for the best?

I always bend them cold, and never had a problem.

I had the same thing happen to my Fordor. I raised the front of the engine a bit too far and the throttle assy. was forced against the firewall. THis bent it a little and caused what you described.

Well after ordering a new spring and trying to bend the bracket back into shape, I was still having the same problem. So with the help of Al at the Go Devil Garage http://www.godevilgarage.com/ I was able to buy a throttle linkage assembly that he had and it worked perfectly. Thanks for all the input and help from folks at the Ford Barn! You guys are truly the best and it's great to have such great resources as the people on here.
