Default Need some help...

Hoping someone can shed some light on my problem. I had to remove the throttle linkage assembly when I jacked up the motor to change the crankshaft pulley. Got everything back together and now when I start the truck it stays on a high idle. The throttle assembly is bolted tightly to the transmission, all the rods are connected correctly. In looking at it, it seems like the rod isn't pulling it back far enough. I can push it back with my hand and it moves back freely. I'm baffled! Any input would be greatly appreciated.

Probably bent arm on throttle side. check to see if its touching at the choke rod if it is it needs to be bent out away from manifold. I had the same problem when I changed the motormount on my car.

Do you just squirt oil down them or are there caps that cover them?

there are holes on the top of the pivot points to put a drop of oil in, i use 3 in one or trans fluid, kroil
make sure the spring is strong a new one exerts quite a bit of return force

If not broken maybe the spring is weak. When I put my engine in I put a new spring on my throttle assembly and it had a lot more tension then the old one.
Best if you can post a photo it may be easier to get help

I've attached some pictures. Hope this will shed some light on it. Everything 'seems' to be okay. Also, can the spring be replaced without removing the whole throttle assembly?

It's probable that when you raised the front of the engine to change pulley you may have "bent" the assy. According to others, if this is the case, they can be cold "formed".

The end of the crosslink by the exhaust appears to be bent.

Also, the rear of the head and the throttle crosslink appear to be closer than normal to the firewall. Maybe it's just the camera angle?

Any chance you could post a picture of what one is supposed to look like? Should I attempt to bend the assembly towards the engine?

Looks to me that the return spring is not installed completely.

See reply #53 in this thread:

https://www.fordbarn.com/forum/showth...senberg&page=4

I would unclip the rod at the crosshaft and make sure the carb throttle closes OK, then bend the arm straight so the link will clip on without opening the throttle some. Also make sure the linkage doesn't rub the floorboard. Where the linkage is bolted to the rear of the block, it should curve forward. I'll post a picture of it, if I can find it.

The carb end does look bent and in the 1st photo the 1 st spring hook does not look like its connected. There should be some tension on the assemble when its installed

Pulled the floorboards (everything looks okay there) and removed the throttle assembly linkage. I ordered a new spring and am posting some pictures and looking for some input. Should the rod on the carb side be straight down? Mine looks bent back? Where the bolts go through it seems like one side is thicker when I put it in the vise, should there be washers or spacers on here?
Any help would be appreciated.
Thanks
Scott

Your spring looks fine. The rod should be parallel to the two mounting bolts, so you need to bend one of the uprights. Probably bend one more forward to match the other, since it appeared to be too close to the firewall. The thin tapered end of the rod has a few bends that it shouldn't have. It should be in line with the crosshaft and angle outward in the same plane, then have a little sharper bend outward near the ball end. My car uses the ealier style, so I don't have a picture, but may be able to take a picture later today of another guys parts.
